The “Big Con” describes the confidence trick the consulting industry performs in contracts with hollowed-out and risk-averse governments and shareholder value-maximizing firms. It grew from the 1980s and 1990s in the wake of reforms by the neoliberal right and Third Way progressives, and it thrives on the ills of modern capitalism, from financialization and privatization to the climate crisis. It is possible because of the unique power that big consultancies wield through extensive contracts and networks—as advisors, legitimators, and outsourcers—and the illusion that they are objective sources of expertise and capacity. In the end, the Big Con weakens our businesses, infantilizes our governments, and warps our economies.

Honoring the best books of 2022, the&nbsp;<a href="https://publishingtriangle.org/2022/03/finalists-2022-publishing-triangle-awards/" target="_blank">Publishing Triangle&nbsp;</a>presents the&nbsp;Judy Grahn Award&nbsp;for Lesbian Nonfiction, the&nbsp;Randy Shilts Award&nbsp;for Gay Nonfiction, the&nbsp;Audre Lorde Award&nbsp;for Lesbian Poetry, the&nbsp;Thom Gunn Award&nbsp;for Gay Poetry, the&nbsp;Joseph Hansen Award&nbsp;for LGBTQ Crime Writing, the Publishing Triangle Award for Trans &amp; Gender-Variant Literature, and the&nbsp;Edmund White Award&nbsp;for Debut Fiction.The Publishing Triangle partners with the&nbsp;Ferro-Grumley Literary Awards&nbsp;to present the Ferro-Grumley Award for Fiction. The&nbsp;Bill Whitehead Award&nbsp;for Lifetime Achievement , the&nbsp;Betty Berzon Emerging Writer Award, and the Michele Karlsberg Leadership Award&nbsp;are also presented, and this year the Publishing Triangle will also give out its inaugural Torchbearer Award to Drag Story Hour NYC. Presented in collaboration with the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newschool.edu/m/writing/" target="_blank">Creative Writing Program</a>&nbsp;at The New School.

The Publishing Triangle Awards

We invite graduates, their families and friends to join us for the Lang Recognition Ceremony. The Lang ceremony is a more intimate celebration of student's time at the university. Lang faculty and student families are the primary attendees. Students names are called at this ceremony and students cross a stage to receive a diploma cover. The Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. with the academic procession and will conclude with the presentation of graduates.
